Varde Media Solutions is Here.  Why “Varde” – and Why Now?

A name with a long history

In Norwegian, “Varde” means cairn – those deliberate stacks of stones you find on mountain summits, ridge lines, and coastlines across Scandinavia and beyond.

Cairns have been constructed since the Viking Age as trail markers to guide travelers through challenging terrain – mountainous regions, dense forests, and treacherous coastlines. But their purpose went well beyond marking a trail.

The ancient Norse used cairns as lighthouses, helping navigators find safe passage through rivers, fjords, and coastal waters. They marked boundaries between territories and served as monuments to memorialize important events and fallen warriors.

And critically, they were used to communicate.

Signal fires lit on top of cairns at high points in the landscape were used to warn of threats and mobilize defenses against enemies. Each “Varde” site had a line of sight to the next, so  the warning could be relayed across great distances in a matter of minutes.

In Norway, cairns are still in common use today on mountain tops and along trails.

A cairn is a small thing. But across its long history it has carried large meaning: Someone knew the way, and they built something to help you see clearly – whether that meant finding a path, reading a coastline, or responding to a threat before it was too late.

That is what I wanted this company to be. A guide.

25 years of learning what actually matters

I have spent more than 25 years working in technology and consulting as a project manager, a business developer, a leader, an innovator, and somewhere in between all of those.

Throughout that time, one lesson surfaced more consistently than any other: The technology is rarely the hard part.

Understanding what a client needs – their goals, constraints, and workflows, that’s where most initiatives succeed or fail. Get that right, and the technology almost selects itself. Get it wrong, and no amount of engineering fixes it.

That philosophy is the foundation Varde is built on.

Consulting first. Technology second.

Varde is structured deliberately as a consultancy first. We assess before we recommend. We design before we build.

When we do bring in technology – and we will, because the technology in this space is genuinely complex and genuinely important – we source it from a small, curated set of partners we know well and trust to work together as an integrated system.

We are not a traditional systems integrator. We are not a generic IT reseller. We do not have a preferred platform to push or a large organizational overhead to justify.

What we have is deep domain expertise in enterprise video, a clear point of view about what good looks like, and the independence to tell clients the truth about what they need.

One problem. One focus.

We center on the Enterprise Video Content Factory: Designing and building the workflows, tools, and infrastructure that allow organizations to manage video as a real operational asset — rather than an accumulation of files nobody can find.

It is a problem that is almost universal in mid-market and institutional organizations.

And it is a problem that deserves a solution builder that works on nothing else.

If any of this sounds familiar

Most organizations dealing with enterprise video challenges have already tried to solve the problem incrementally — a new storage system here, a new platform there. The pieces don’t add up to a working operation.

If you are at that point, or approaching it, that is exactly the conversation we are here to have.

Have a look around and reach out when you are ready.
